Women recruited in Indian paramilitary force ‘only for sexual pleasure’: Former Indian Commanding Officer

Published on: October 31, 2019 10:28 AM

The female officer of India’s Paramilitary Force has made startling revelations on the national television that women are recruited in the forces ‘only for sexual pleasure.’

Karuna Jeet Kaur, the Deputy Commandant of the Indo-Tibet Border Police (ITBP), made this claim during an interview.

Karuna Jeet, who resigned from the force after being a victim herself, said that she had joined the paramilitary force five years back and had been promoted to Deputy Commandant, which is rank equivalent to an army Major.

Kaur exposed that when during her posting at Millari Post, where the Eighth Battalion in Uttarakhand was also stationed, a constable ranked sepoy forced into her room at midnight and tried to sexually assault.

She added that the constable kept repeating the mantra that he had not touched a woman in two years and was very desperate.

If a constable can hold the hand of a deputy commandant and commit such act, you can pretty much gauge the honor of the other women in the force.

The female officer maintained that despite her complaint, neither her commandant officer nor the battalion took her seriously. This forced her to resign from the force and lodge an FIR – the matter is now in the court.

She said that the women in the para-military force are inducted only for sexual pleasure. She also revealed that she received harassment calls from the DIG a couple of times and was subsequently sent for a month-long leave.

In the uniform, I considered myself a soldier, not a woman, just a gender less soldier, but the society did not accept that.

She urged that the government initiate a discreet inquiry into the matter, “This is just a tip of the iceberg; a lot will come out if you order an independent inquiry.”
