According to seismic monitoring agencies, the quake occurred near the island of Mindanao at a depth of about 10 kilometers, making it a shallow and potentially destructive event. Authorities in the Philippines, Indonesia, and the United States issued tsunami alerts shortly after the tremor, urging residents in coastal areas to move to higher ground as a precaution.

While there were no immediate reports of deaths or major structural damage, officials said assessments were ongoing in affected areas. Residents in several parts of Mindanao reported strong shaking, with furniture toppling inside homes and minor damage to buildings and infrastructure. Aftershocks were also felt following the main quake, causing concern among local communities.
In Sarangani province, located near the epicenter, power and telecommunications services were disrupted. School classes were suspended while emergency teams carried out inspections. Local authorities said there were no confirmed reports of collapsed buildings, though some structures, including a bridge and a religious shrine, suffered visible damage.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the national government was coordinating disaster response efforts and closely monitoring developments. Emergency personnel were deployed to assist local authorities and evaluate potential risks in coastal communities.
Indonesia’s geophysics agency reported small tsunami waves following the earthquake but said no significant damage had been recorded. Witnesses in Indonesia’s northern city of Manado also reported feeling the tremor.
