Israel carried out airstrikes on Beirut southern suburbs on Sunday, saying the attacks targeted Hezbollah command and operational sites following reported rocket fire into northern Israel.

The latest escalation comes just days after the United States, Israel and Lebanon announced a renewed ceasefire framework aimed at reducing hostilities along the Israel-Lebanon border. Israeli officials said the strikes were a direct response to what they described as violations of the ceasefire agreement.

The Israeli military also released footage showing troops dismantling a facility it said was used by Hezbollah for assembling explosive devices. According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the site contained various materials that could be used to manufacture improvised explosive devices, including containers filled with nails and other metal fragments.
Security analyst Nick Reese, a former U.S. national security adviser and adjunct professor at New York University’s Center for Global Affairs, said such materials are commonly associated with anti-personnel explosives designed to maximize injuries. He noted that the combination of shrapnel materials and larger components, including what appeared to be propane tanks, suggested the facility may have served multiple purposes in the production of explosives.
The Israeli military said the operation forms part of broader efforts to weaken Hezbollah’s operational capabilities. It also announced that an earlier airstrike in Lebanon had killed Abed Harb, whom Israel identified as the commander of Hezbollah’s engineering unit and a senior figure involved in planning attacks against Israeli forces.
Hezbollah did not immediately claim responsibility for the reported rocket launches into northern Israel and has not publicly commented on Israel’s allegations regarding the explosives facility.
