UVAS establishes Pak-China Desk

LAHORE: In order to facilitate Pakistani students with funding for higher education in China, the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) on Wednesday established a Pak-China Desk on the city campus. UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha along with Prof Dr SHI Zhengli from Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, inaugurated the Pak-China Desk. UVAS Prof Dr Habiur Rehman, Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Associate Professor Dr Aqeel Javeed and a large number of students were also present on the occasion. While addressing the gathering, Dr Talat said that the objectives of establishing the desk at UVAS were to facilitate students with funding, so that they could pursue higher education in China. He said that the desk would also help in developing close liaison with the Chinese Embassy at Lahore regarding promotional material from Chinese universities, industries and enhancing student and faculty exchange between China and Pakistan. To promote research collaboration in the field of livestock and related sectors, the desk would conduct seminars, conferences, and workshops on areas of mutual interest, while promotion of Chinese culture and language in the UVAS was also included in its objectives, he said. Separately, the UVAS Department of Microbiology organised a three-day international workshop on ‘Devise Strategies to Control Emerging Viral Hemorrhagic Fever in Pakistan’. Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the workshop and distributed certificates among the workshop participants. Prof Dr SHI Zhengli also attended the session. While speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Talat said that in future UVAS would enhance cooperation with China for the quality of education and capacity building of students and faculty.
