Sindh cabinet undergoes quick reshuffle

Published on: August 6, 2019 1:55 AM

A day after Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah inducted six new members into his team, the provincial cabinet underwent a major reshuffle on Monday.

The Local Government Department, previously allotted to Pakistan People’s Party Karachi Division President Saeed Ghani, was assigned to Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, along with the charge of the Forest Ministry and the portfolio of religious affairs.

Ghani was handed the charge of the Information and Archives ministry, along with the Labour Department. Ghani is replacing Barrister Murtaza Wahab, who was the adviser to the CM on information, archives and labour. Wahab will now be working as the CM’s adviser on law, environment, climate change and coastal development. He will also serve as Sindh government’s spokesperson.

Sohail Anwar Siyal was awarded portfolios for irrigation, Zakat, usher and auqaf and anti-corruption establishment.

According to an official notification, the education department has been taken away from Syed Sardar Ali Shah. He has been given charge of the Department of Culture and Tourism instead. Till now no decision has been made about regarding the portfolio of education so for now, Murad will head the ministry.

Furthermore, Nisar Khuhro has been appointed adviser to the chief minister on universities, boards and the Works and Services Department.

Thatta’s Syed Aijaz Shah Sherazi has been appointed adviser to the CM for the Social Welfare Department. Sherazi is a late entry into the PPP, joining their ranks right before the last general elections in 2018.

PPP’s Abdul Bari Pitafi, who had to resign due to the Ghotki by-election, retained the Livestock and Fisheries Department. Meanwhile, Ismail Rahu was appointed as the minister for Agriculture and Ikramullah Dharejo was assigned the Department of Industries, Commerce and Co-operation.
