ISLAMABAD: The federal government introduced an important bill in the National Assembly on Monday evening seeking action against corrupt elements in the Pakistan Air Force. In this regard, the federal law minister Zahid Hamid presented Pakistan Air Force Amendment Bill 2016. The said bill has been referred to the National Assembly standing committee on defence for approval by the speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. The basic purpose of this bill to amend the section 121 PAF act with a view to bring one of its provisions at par with section 92 of the Pakistan Army Act 1952 and section 106 of Pakistan naval Ordinance 1961. This law seeks to circumvent the problem of rooting out corrupt elements in the Pakistan Air Force, yet another institution in the country to be afflicted by the menace of corruption. Section 121of the PAF Act fits the case of a person who commits an offense against this act while subject to it and then ceases to be the subject in question. The provision of this section is inadequate. It does not include the procedure according to which such offenders can be taken into and kept in air force custody, tried and punished for committing an offence under section 52 while subject to this act. “The proposed provision is to be inserted for the maintenance of discipline and for eradication of corruption,” said Defence Minister Khawaja Asif in his statement of subjects and reasons regarding this bill.
