LAHORE: The Primary & Secondary Healthcare (P&SHC) Department has asked all its employees to follow proper dress code during working hours so that visitors can distinguish between them and other persons. Strict punishment will be given to violators and disciplinary action proceedings against delinquents will also be initiated under disciplinary proceedings via the PEEDA Act 2006. Officials of the department privy to this development told Daily Times that patients face problems as they do not know whom to contact for availing medical services in case employees are not wearing their white coats. He said the implementation of dress code would help in improving health services for patients at the hospital. Employees have also been asked to wear their identity cards. Patients and their attendants at the hospital say there is no problem if employees are available on their seats. “The dress code or no dress code will make no difference if no one is on their seat.” However, an employee stated that instead of worrying about dress codes, the hospital management could easily discipline staff members who were not serious in performing their duties and just came to while the hours away. He said a letter issued by P&SHC department to all executive district officers (heath) and medical superintendents of tehsil headquarters hospitals and district headquarters hospitals that doctors of all cadres were bound to wear white overcoats bearing their name and designation tab during duty hours in all public hospitals.
