Osman Khalid Butt shares beautiful poetry as tribute to acid attack victims

Published on: June 3, 2019 10:47 PM

Actor Osman Khalid Butt shared a powerful piece of poetry written by Ali Imran for upcoming drama serial ‘Surkh Chandni’ and dedicated it to the indomitable spirit of acid attack survivors.

He paid a tribute to these survivors through his Instagram post, whose lives and stories are an inspiration.

In the recent past, a lot of television dramas were focused on highlighting social issues particularly child abuse and rape. An upcoming drama has taken a step further as it aims to explore the issue of acid attack survivors.

Directed by Shahid Shafaat and written by Asma Nabeel, the makers aim to highlight issues that are prevalent in society through this play and hope to start a conversation so they can find solutions.

Asma Nabeel shared on Facebook where she got her inspiration from for pursuing this topic and writing the script. She said that she met activist Masarrat Misbah and acid attack survivors in 2017.

“The stories were haunting. They were soul jolting. And after hearing all that I kept on thinking what can be done. How can I do something that might be of some help? And then Allah gave me the courage to pen down ‘Surkh Chandni’ and exactly two years of hard work of all the people who are associated with this project,” she said.

She also hoped that the first step she took two years back may end up in paving the way for some positive steps towards the change.

The socially relevant drama is produced by Sana Shahnawaz and Samina Humayun, who are accredited with producing hits like ‘Mann Mayal’ and ‘Sadqay Tumharay’ and have made issue-based plays like ‘Khuda Mera Bhi Hai’ and ‘Iltija’.

‘Surkh Chandni’ features Osman Khalid Butt and Sohai Ali Abro as the leads. The duo has been paired together for the first time. Apart from them, it features Hassan Ahmed, Asad Siddiqui, Huma Nawab and Mansha Pasha in key roles.
