ISLAMABAD: The report of making MRI machine faulty deliberately in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has surfaced while Talib, technician is stated to be behind this act who has connection with the private laboratories in return for the payment of commission by these laboratories. He declared the MRI machine defective whenever patients come there for test and send them to private laboratories on the pretext that machine has developed defects and this way he grabs commission from the laboratories per patient. According to sources the MRI machine was lying defective since the last one week and the patients were forced to move to private laboratories for test at inflated rates. As soon as the administration took notice of the complaints and checked the machine they found it in order and functional. According to Daily Times investigation, this machine is declared defective all of a sudden and is switched off on the pretext of immense inflow of patients. This way dozens of patients are forced to contact private laboratories. Touts of technician Talib remain always present in the hospital who take the patients to private laboratories. In return the laboratories pay the technician a hefty commission. The test is conducted at higher rate which is tantamount to commit robbery on the pockets of poor patients. This machine was lying defective since one week. On media reports, the administration took notice of the situation and surprisingly this machine became functional. When contacted, administrator PIMS Dr Altaf told Daily Times that legal action and whosoever would be found involved would be brought to justice.
