Rasm-e-Qul for Usama Qamar–son of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira–was attended by a large number of politicians and public on Sunday at Qaira House in Lala Musa. Those who arrived at Qaira House to express solidarity with the bereaved included Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) stalwart Javed Hashmi, Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Vice Chief Liaqat Baloch and former Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Choudhary. Earlier on Friday, PPP senior leader Kaira’s son and his friend were killed in a road accident when their car went out of control; ramming into a tree. Soon after the tragic news spread, condolence messages started pouring in from all quarters. Sharing the grief of the former minister, PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said that he was “deeply saddened to hear the tragic news of [Kaira’s] young son.” Prime Minister Imran Khan also deeply regretted Usama’s death and prayed that his soul rests in peace. He also offered his condolences to the family and prayed for them to bear their immense loss with fortitude. Former president Asif Ali Zardari sorrowfully noted that the “loss of a young child is unbearable” and prayed for the deceased. He assured, “Bhutto family and the PPP stands by the Kaira family in this hour of grief”. A condolence statement was also issued by PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif who prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul. He also supplicated that the bereaved family found the courage to bear the irreparable loss. Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa offered his condolences to Kaira and his family and “expressed his heartfelt grief on the sad demise of Osama Kaira”. A statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations maintained, “May Allah gives strength to bereaved parents and family to bear this irreparable loss.” Federal Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari expressed deep condolence with the family and said, “What a terrible tragedy for any parent to bear. May Allah give Kaira and his family the strength to bear this massive loss.” PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz also expressed sorrow over the sad demise of Kaira’s young son. She took to Twitter to noted that PML-N stood with Usama’s family in the moment of mourn and sorrow.
