An anti-corruption court, on Tuesday, granted approval to the three- day physical remand of Ishtiaq Ameer Muqam and four other accused by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The accused are being investigated for charges of corruption in a road construction contract. Ishtiaq is the son of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President, Amir Muqam. He and other accused were sent on remand when they were presented before the court by FIA officials today. The accused have denied all charges in the court. FIA officials noted before the court that the accused had failed to complete a project scheduled to be completed within one year in a period of 10 years. According to the officials, the national treasury received approximately Rs 2 billion loss due to delay in road construction. Earlier in the day, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested Ishtiaq Ameer Muqam over charges of corruption. Ishtiaq and four other contractors were arrested by the FIA soon after completion of an inquiry into alleged corruption in the construction of Alpuri Road in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Shangla district. Sources revealed, “A case had also been registered pertaining to alleged corruption in the construction of the aforesaid road, with the concerned project director, contractors National Highways Authority (NHA) officials and engineers nominated in it.” It was further said the FIA had recommended departmental action against 11 NHA officials in addition to blacklisting Ameer Muqam and Company.
