Avocados are great for your diet – but not on toast, nutrition researchers say. It may sound obvious. Bread, a demonized processed carb, has essentially piggybacked superfood starlet avocado to be accepted, even revered, by clean-eating evangelists. Even the most devout avo-toasters know avocado is the Cher to bread’s Sonny, nutrition-wise. But this new study, by researchers at the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Center for Nutrition Research, was designed to see whether fat is beneficial for weight loss and diabetes risk in obese and overweight people, as recent research suggests.
