Imran Khan being used as a shield: Khursheed Shah

Published on: May 1, 2019 12:50 AM

Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah says that Prime Minister Imran Khan is being used as a shield only, a private news agency reported on Tuesday. He said so while speaking to the media representatives during a press conference in Islamabad.

“Despite all the odds, the opposition will never want the people to scream and protest. The people of Pakistan should be free to speak. If the PPP took debts during its tenure then the centre must ask Hafiz Sheikh about it as he was also a part of the government at that time,” stressed the PPP leader.

He said, “Today, people are screaming but the budget is yet to come and then, people will scream. This is the only government which made the amnesty scheme for the thieves.”The former opposition leader of the House added, “We should not believe in power rather we should believe in unity. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto also had several technocrats in his government but this (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) government has done wonders.”

Commenting on the economic condition of the country, Shah said, “The economy is struggling because the country is unstable.” He insisted that the army must not come at the front despite the failure of the government. “It seems Imran Khan is being used as a shield only,” he hinted. Turning towards the military spokesperson announcement to bring madrassas into the mainstream, Shah said, “It would have been better if the statements about madrassa reforms and other issues were made by ministers. The army should refrain from interfering in such matters as such acts make institutions controversial.”
