KARACHI: Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said that the grand alliance could pave the way for early general elections if all political opposition forms an effective alliance. With positive intention and consensus, all opposition parties in the parliament must form a grand alliance that could pave the way for early election, he told reporters after condolence with the family members of PIA airline crash victims here on Monday. “Due to ignorance of the opposition parties, the treasury always takes advantage of their lack of interest on issues,” he pointed out. He said that the grand opposition alliance was need of the hour and if not formed the ruling parties will complete five-year term. Shujaat said that the joint opposition was not necessary for the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q), it was need of the hour and it should be formed in the interest of the people. “We believe in the court of law for justice. Supreme Court of Pakistan is the only institution that has support of the entire nation,” he said. “Imran Khan should trust the judiciary,” he said. Without reforms in the system, the next general elections would be useless, he said, adding that the committee formed to architect reform was futile. He said that some vested interest people could add bad blood in the formation of the grand alliance, he said. All those political parties that did not join the alliance would fail to gain in future, he said. Earlier, the former prime minister demanded a transparent inquiry into ATR crash. “We expect PIA’s plane crash investigation should be transparent,” he added. Humayun Jamshed, brother of the late Junaid Jamshed, said that there were so many different opinions emerging about the plane crash. But after examination by the French experts, it would reach to the original cause of the accident, he said.
