People of South Punjab were happy with me, never demanded separate province: Elahi

Published on: March 28, 2019 1:36 AM

Punjab Assembly Speaker, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, on Wednesday, noted that a country progresses if its rulers have good intention and thinking.

He lauded Imran Khan for being such a leader while adding that he himself had always regarded service to the people as “ibadat”.

He said this while talking to a delegation of PILDAT headed by Ahmed Bilal Mehboob which called on him in the Assembly Chambers here. The speaker recalled, “During chief ministership, we provided free medicines, education up to matric, textbooks among children and uniforms,”

He added, “(Our)1122 Rescue Service reaches to help in just 7 minutes, we have won hearts of the people through hard work and efforts.”

Chaudhry claimed that the Punjab Assembly had done more legislation than other assemblies by passing 16 bills so far.

He talked about his mission being the establishment of law and order in the country and the provision of quick and cheap justice to the people.

” Youth are the real assets of Pakistan (and the) positive role of the youth in politics is the guarantor of development of Pakistan,” he maintained.

Speaker Elahi further said that he had doubled the budget of education during his tenure and established two colleges for the blind people in Lahore and Bahawalpur.

“I had started my political career from local bodies,” he added.

Calling PTI an allied government, he claimed that his party would continue cooperation with each other. He further said, “I had always given preference to the problems of south Punjab (and) established Burn Unit and Cardiac Hospital equipped with all facilities in Multan,”

“People of south Punjab were happy with me due to hard work and service as such no demand for the separate province was made during that period,” Elahi concluded.

The delegation included young political workers of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI), Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), Jamiat-e-Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) and Balochistan National Party (Mengal).

Those present on the occasion also included Punjab Assembly Secretary, Muhammad Khan Bhatti; Parliamentary Affairs Director General, Inayatullah Lak; Pakistan Muslim League (PML) Media Advisor, Rizwan Mumtaz Ali, and Syed Shakir Hussain Shah.

In a similar development, former senior minister, Abdul Aleem Khan, also called on Punjab Speaker in the Speakers Chambers on Wednesday.

The two exchanged views on the prevailing political situation, whereas matters of mutual interest also came up under discussion during the meeting

Provincial Minister, Chaudhry Zaheeruddin and MPA Shoaib Siddiqui were also present on this occasion.
