PTI blasts ECP for serving notices to parliamentarians

Published on: January 7, 2017 5:27 AM

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehrek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader and MNA Imran Khattak on Friday criticized Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for serving notices over petty and small issues in order to divert the public attention from mega corruption scams in the country.

The move came after the ECP yesterday served a notices to ten MPAs of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) mostly of PTI in case of assets concealment in the declaration statements.

The names of Parliamentarians of PTI including Imran Khaatak, Gulzar Khan, Sajjid Nawaz and Ali Muhammad Khan, Qawmi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, two MNAs of Awami National Party (ANP) including Gulam Ahmad Bilour and former chief minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti. The MNA Hameed Ul Haq was also among those served the assets concealment
notification.

The reaction over the notification from the leadership of PTI was very blatant and criticized the role and responsibility of the ECP and called the move to hide the mega corruption of the ruling party and it’s allies.

The ECP on Friday revealed in the notification that it was served to the MNA over their discrepancies in assets statements for the election of 2013.

Massive shifts of assets have been observed in the record of MNAs which simply contradicted with statement submitted to ECP so far the reason they had been notified for not including the increase in land and property.

These MNAs will be bound to reply the notices sent by the ECP and in case of failure they will have to appear before the Election Commission in person to explain their position.

Imran Khattak told this scribe that ECP has neglected the corrupt politician’s cases pending for the last three years but victimizing the minor offenders which were against the spirit of the constitution of Pakistan.

He added that ECP need to clean the mess from above as it should not allow any politician holding corruption charges to contest elections for the seat of National assembly.

The MNAs including former Chief Minister KP Amir Haider Hoti and central leader of ANP Ghulam Ahmed Bilour will also identified in the notification for its duality in the assets declaration statement.

However, when contacted the central information secretary of ANP Mian Iftikhar denied to comment over the ECP notification and said that the issues pertaining to assets declaration statement was the issue of the both MNAs. He said that he was not subjected to give any sort of statements as it’s not a party matter rather a case of the individual property.
