Prince George won’t attend the same school as his father

Published on: January 17, 2017 4:21 AM

Prince George may not go to the same school as his father as Kate and William opt for a smaller, more discreet pre-prep closer to Kensington Palace.

The three-year-old was expected to be enrolled at £6,500-a-term Wetherby School in Notting Hill, which Princes William and Harry both attended.

However, he is more likely to attend the school’s new branch in Kensington when he starts reception in September, according to royal insiders.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are said to favour Wetherby Kensington because it is less likely to attract photographers, sources told the Sunday Express.

Paparazzi are known to gather around Notting Hill to capture celebrities on the school run.

The new school in Kensington, which will occupy 4 Wetherby Gardens, is also just five minutes away from Kensington Palace.

The source said: ‘The new school off Gloucester Road is preferable because it is much more intimate and less likely to attract photographers.

‘Plus, it is just around the corner from Kensington Palace.’

Wetherby Kensington is described on its website as a ‘two form, non-selective, pre-preparatory school for boys from Reception to Year 3’.

It will follow the same curriculum as other schools in the group and share the same ‘values and ethos’.

The founding headteacher when it opens in September will be Miss Helen Milnes.

Many Wetherby pupils end up at leading public schools including Westminster and St Paul’s. Last month, it was reported that William and Kate are expected to leave their Norfolk residence behind for Kensington Palace this year.

Both William and Kate are set to take on even more royal duties in 2017, after stepping up their responsibilities this year.

William’s contract as a pilot East Anglian Air Ambulance comes to an end in March. The Duke and Duchess are also reportedly hoping to expand their own Royal Foundation charity and want to focus more on causes like mental health.

Prince William and Kate, along with Prince Harry have openly lent their support to the helping people battle mental health issues. Kensington Palace declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline.
