KARACHI: Karachi police on Tuesday busted a gang of kidnappers at Northern Bypass near Hab area and in encounter two kidnappers were killed and the police managed to recover an abducted youth from their custody. Deputy Inspector General of CIA police Dr Jamil Ahmed told in a press conference at his office that it was a first kidnapping case of 2017 year which was solved successfully. He said one Muhammad Faisal, aged 17, son of Nazeer Ahmed was kidnapped for ransom from his shop by unknown accused on January 05 and kidnappers had demanded Rs30 million in ransom. This FIR of the incident was registered in Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police station Karachi. He further said that police along with CPLC and AVCC(CIA) started joint efforts and solved the case within a few days. He said when two accused had shifted the kidnapped youth to Balochistan area on a motorcycle, the police tried to arrest them, but they opened fire. In exchange of firing they were killed by police who recovered the youth safely. Police also recovered two pistols and one motorcycle from the custody of the killed accused. The DIG claimed that 16 cases of kidnapping for ransom were reported in 2016, and all of them have been solved. To a query, he said that poor civic infrastructure of the city is also a major factor in rising crime in Karachi. He said the criminals easily commit crimes in streets without streetlights and they loot vehicles due to battered roads.
