ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Thursday said that government wanted to regulate the social media in the country. The Information Minister while speaking at the National Security, nation Building and Mass Media conference in Islamabad said that there was a need for the government to regulate the social media in Pakistan. Fawad said, “This regulation will not be possible without having good and healthy relations with the global social media giants like Google and Facebook.” The information Minister underscored that the excessive amount of information leads to increase in conflicts, and this issue is not unique to Pakistan. Fawad further stated that there were three different regulatory bodies regulating the media in Pakistan. Thus, the government is trying to merge them and make one autonomous body which will coordinate with the global social media giants. He asked the media industry and students studying this field needed to be mindful of technological advancements taking place. “We need to evaluate that universities which are running such a large media departments will there be jobs in the future for these students.”
