ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Monday initiated the process of collecting information of protesters who incited violence and caused damage to public properties during demonstrations against Aasia Bibi’s acquittal.
Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi has summoned a report today from the FIA, National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) regarding the identities of the rioters.
The Supreme Court (SC) last Wednesday acquitted Aasia Bibi – a Christian women who had been sentenced to death over blasphemy – which led to countrywide protests. Videos all over social media and other evidences showed the protesters inciting violence and destroying public property.
On Sunday, the Interior Ministry on Sunday released images of protesters who vandalised public properties during Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) protests against Aasia Bibi’s acquittal in blasphemy case.
The ministry reportedly received images of the miscreants via the special branch and other related authorities, which have been released for identification. The public has been urged to provide any information regarding the concerned individuals to the police and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Prime Minister Imran Khan reportedly expressed anger over damage to public property during protests against acquittal of Aasia Bibi – a Christian woman who had been sentenced to death on charges of blasphemy. The premier has also ordered arrest of all those involved in vandalising public properties.
On Saturday, Police said 500 people, including TLP chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi and senior leader Afzal Qadri, were booked in 11 cases. They face charges of disrupting peace and blocking roads, police said.
CCTV footage and other related videos are been analysed to identify the miscreants. Moreover, the FIA Cyber-Wing and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have also launched a social media search for any related content that incites violence among the public.
