In pursuant to the Supreme Court’s orders, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) in assistance with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Pakistan Customs have launched a crackdown on illegal Indian direct-to-home television (DTH) in various cities of Punjab, including Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal and Pakpattan, as per the Supreme Court (SC) orders. More than 300 LNBs, illegal receivers and dishes have so far been confiscated during the crackdown conducted in majore markes, including Hall Road. According to the PEMRA, FIA and Pakistan Customs laws, FIRs have been launched against five violators and judicial remand has been acquired for the same from the court. All the confiscated equipment is with FIA. Moreover, the president of Sheikhupura Market has submitted an undertaking according to which all material and products related to Illegal Indian DTH / C-Line has been removed from the market In the crackdown, senior officials of PEMRA Regional Office Lahore, FIA and Customs Intelligence participated.
