Islamabad: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Rana Tanveer has said that the government allocated budget for science and technology is less than what is required by these departments. He expressed these views in a meeting of Senate Standing committee on Science and Technology, which was held in Islamabad on Wednesday under the chair of Osman Saifullah Khan. Tanveer asserted that the budget allocated for the Science and Technology ministry is less than its requirements but due to hectic efforts from this financial year, the budget of 12 research and development ministries was increased from Rs 61 million to Rs 265 million. Now, institutions have already been submitting their projects. He also admitted that relevant institutions and ministries are lacking coordination and his ministry has taken action against more than 80 fake or substandard drinking water factories. Chairman of the Committee, Osman Saifullah said that expenditures on 1 kilometre of the Metro road are more than the whole budget of the ministry of Science and Technology. The committee approved the Pakistan National Accreditation Council Bill, which was already passed by the National Assembly. They deferred COMSATS University Islamabad Bill 2017 and Pakistan National Council of Science and Technology bill until the next sitting.
