LAHORE: Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) should perform the role of supervisors for the up gradation of police stations on modern lines and for better service delivery, steps should be taken to enhance capacity building of subordinates by holding training courses and community policing for the safety of public wealth and lives. These views were expressed by the newly appointed Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab Amjad Javid Saleemi while addressing to a darbar (meeting) of ASPs and DSPs held at the Central Police Office (CPO) Lahore on Thursday. He added that supremacy of law and service of public is top priority of police and he will make efforts to ensure public service being a Commander of the police and for this purpose, all available resources will be provided to the police force and the police will not hesitate in sacrificing their lives for public service. The IGP emphasized upon arrest of proclaimed offenders by a special crackdown campaign while regular inspection, strict monitoring and parade should be restarted in police stations. He vowed to put a special focus on cleanliness and provision of clean water and also recruitment of sweepers in 721 police stations across Punjab. He added that the district training schools will be opened in all police lines of the province where refresher courses and training workshops for investigation, traffic management, and crime control and anti riots force under the supervision of experts will be managed. The IGP, while directing the officers, said that the ASPs and DSPs should initiate process of reforms in police stations, check record of 25 registers of police stations and also take action against the officials who commit corruption, misuse of power and delay in lodging of FIRs. He said that resource management centres should be established in all districts. The IGP further said that for safe Punjab and safe society, the concept of trust and mutual coordination between police and public is the need of time therefore, senior officers should arrange meetings with notables, religious scholars, traders, lawyers, members of civil society and journalists. He said that steps should be taken to ensure facilities of education, health and other welfare programs for children of officers and officials. IG Punjab issued orders to convene session of promotion board and directed the officers to complete their ACRs as early as possible. He further said that there is no need of any favour for promotion and transfer/posting of officers and to facilitate officers and officials by posting them over places of their own choice is our top priority so that they may perform their professional duties and public service with full commitment. The IGP said that new police schools will be established in all regions and special admission quota with fewer fees will be allocated for the children of police personnel. He said that health insurance card will be provided to officials of police for providing them with best health facilities so that they may get treated from modern hospitals. He said that officers and officials should serve the public and focus on protection of wealth and lives of people without any kind of pressure while all officers and officials should be granted one day rest in a week. He said that officers and officials working in the fields have wide experience of public dealings therefore, they may give their suggestions to reform the system in police.
