ISLAMABAD: The Interior Ministry on Sunday barred 18 international non-government organisations (INGOs) from working in Pakistan and ordered them to leave the country within 60 days. Of the total, nine have an association with the United States, three with the United Kingdom, two with Holland and one each with Ireland, Denmark, Italy and Switzerland.

According to details, the ministry granted 60 days to the organisations to wrap up their operations and fly back to their countries. Moreover, the ministry allowed 141 NGOs to continue their activities, while directing 72 NGOs to complete their documentations. As per the instructions issued by the ministry, it will be mandatory for all NGOs to attain an annual audit from the audit firm of the Interior Ministry.
