The government has decided to nominate senior politician, Syed Fakhar Imam, as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Parliament. Syed Fakhar Imam has remained speaker, federal minister and leader of the opposition in the past. Meanwhile, the PML-N has rejected the government’s decision. Former Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said that they had no objection to Imam’s name, but they were rejecting it on principle that the PAC chairmanship must be given to the opposition. The PML-N would not nominate its members to standing committees if it was robbed of its right to head the Public Accounts Committee, he added. The PTI’s chief whip, Aamir Dogar, in this regard said that Imam was a senior politician who had a vast experience of parliamentary affairs. He said if Fakhar Imam was appointed as the PAC chairman, the opposition should not oppose him. Syed Fakhar Imam became MNA from Khanewal as independent candidate and later joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. Published in Daily Times, September 5th 2018.
