ISLAMABAD: Judicial Magistrate Amir Khalil has granted a two-day physical remand of Samiullah Khan, a policeman allegedly involved in the murder of a youth at a picket in 110/1 area of Islamabad. Taimoor Riaz, a 27-year-old man, was shot dead by police firing in Islamabad on early hours of Friday after he allegedly failed to stop at the picket in the precincts of Sabzi Mandi Police Station when policemen signalled him. Sabzi Mandi Police Stations, which presented the accused before the judicial magistrate, had sought the physical remand of the accused. The court approved the application of police and sent the accused into police custody for a physical remand of two days. Two personnel of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police, Samiullah Khan and Tariq had been nominated in a FIR lodged by Sajid Riaz, brother of the victim Taimoor Riaz with the Sabzi Mandi Police Station. Both cops surrendered to police on Sunday. Taimoor’s family members had dismissed police statements saying there had been no prior warning or order to stop before the officer opened fire. A murder case was registered against the accused and a homicide team of police had been formed to investigate into the matter.
