Workers agitated as PPP divided into two factions in Islamabad

Published on: February 9, 2017 3:48 AM

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party is clearly divided into two factions in federal capital Islamabad, where, after announcement of party office bearers for Islamabad, the workers have started protests.

The President of PPP Central Punjab Qamar Zaman Kaira and General Secretary Nadim Afzal Chan , who show themselves as the champion of re-organising the party in front of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, have actually divided PPP into two parts in Islamabad by nominating their blue eyed persons for the office bearers of the party in the capital.

It is pertinent to mention here that Islamabad consists of 50 Union Councils, out of which NA-49 covers 26 UCs whereas NA 48 comprises 24 Union Councils.

PPP is facing a defeat in the rural constituency NA-48 since long and the major reason behind this is that Nayyer Bukhari was not given any party office, when Islamabad was divided into two constituencies.

Bukhari used to take the lead of some 20,000 votes from the rural portion of Islamabad, but after the division of the city, all the important slots were given to NA-49 and this is the reason that Dr Israr Shah lost the election from a long lead of 12000 after the death of Benazir Bhutto.

But the defeat did not open the eyes of the leadership of the PPP. Now two lawyers were made the President and General Secretary of the party in Islamabad and both are residents of NA-49.

Islamabad city was limited to only NA-48, where a person was made President who could not even win the elections of traders union of Sector G-8.

He did not take a party ticket for the local bodies elections and contested the polls independently and lost the elections in such a way that his security fees was also confiscated.

The party workers said that the nomination of Iftikhar Shahzada is the result of secret meetings between Nadim Kaira, cousin of Qamar Zaman Kaira and the brother of Nayyer Hussain Bukhari. After the announcement of the PPP’s office bearers, the party workers are disappointed as the City President is an alleged criminal.

Several cases were registered against him in different police stations of the city. Some months ago he went to jail for giving a bogus cheque.

Now the sincere party workers are mulling on leaving the party as the decisions are now being made without consulting them in the affairs of the party.
