USPCAS-W urges intellectuals to acquire opportunities through entrepreneurship

Published on: September 19, 2018 12:47 AM

JAMSHORO: The US-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) on Tuesday organised a graduate seminar on “Technology and Entrepreneurship: Ecosystem of Universities of Pakistan” at the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) in Jamshoro.

Reportedly, MUET Textile Engineering Department Prof Dr Zeeshan Khatri addressed participants on the occasion and asserted that Pakistan has been one of the best opportunities for entrepreneurship and technopreneurship as a new breed of entrepreneurship which could engineer future of a person or even a society.

“Passion motivates an entrepreneur effectively, whereas a businessman merely focuses on profit-based projects,” he said, adding that entrepreneurship could generate innovative ideas and value addition as compared to technopreneurship which could use technology in products for value creation.

“Technology needs proper utilisation regardless of love of hate,” he said, adding that entrepreneurs tend towards innovation as market customers sought ‘uniqueness’ in products.

He further emphasised on significance of technology, and asserted that technology has been playing a critical role in innovation and thus transformation of products.

“Successful entrepreneur is one who believes in achievable dreams because a big problem is a big opportunity,” he maintained.

He said that days of time management were replaced by energy management in an effective manner.

He asserted that sustainable solutions for various problems could be sought with an effective and efficient energy management.

Later, MUET USPCAS-W Deputy Director Prof Dr Rasool Bux Mahar introduced Dr Zeeshan Khatri to participants of the seminar.

“Dr Khatri is one of the top faculty members of the MUET, a co-founder of the NanoCLO and chief executive officer (CEO) of the MuTech (Pvt) Ltd,” Dr Mahar said, adding that the USPCAS-W has been established at the MUET with the generous support by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and technically supported by the University of Utah (UU), USA. He said that the center has been equipped with modern water laboratories to conduct applied research in water sector in Pakistan. Besides, many students attended the seminar and participated in a question and answer session.
