Messi wants to improve one aspect of his game

Published on: September 16, 2018 10:52 AM

Barcelona captain Lionel Messi is not pleased with one aspect of his game, and admits that he needs to do more to improve it.

According to ESPN, Messi admits that he is not as efficient with his penalty striking as he should be, and wants to improve that particular aspect of his game.

The 31-year-old is an all-rounder when it comes to football. He is probably one of the most complete footballers to have ever graced the world of football if not the most.

But despite his excellence, achievements, and diversity, he has a subtle weakness and that is his penalty-kick skills. In last season alone, the little Argentine missed 4 out of 8 penalties, while he has missed a total of 24 career penalties overall.

Messi, however, admits his weakness saying that even at an age where most people either retire or move to easier ways, he still has a lot to learn and improve. Although he believes that it’s hard to replicate in training the pressure and high-stakes of a penalty-kick during a fixture.

“I would like to be more effective from the penalty spot,” Messi told Catalunya Radio. “But it’s difficult to work on penalties. It’s not the same taking them in training as it is in a game.

Earlier on Saturday, Barcelona beat Real Sociedad 1-2 in a thrilling contest at the Anoeta, a stadium where the Blaugranes have not enjoyed much success at as of recent years.

Sociedad opened the scoring via Aritz Elustondo before Barcelona scored two-in-two minutes in the second half of the fixture. Luis Suarez and Ousmanne Dembele were the scorers for the team.

Barca sit on top of the table with 4 wins in 4 fixtures, while arch-rivals Real Madrid, who drew against Atheltic Bilbao on Sunday, are second.
