Larkana Civil Judge-cum-Judicial Magistrate V Anwar Ahmed Jalbani on Saturday paid a surprise visit to the Government Boys Degree College, the largest district college in Larkana with over 4,000 students, following complaints of many students about lack of essential resources and facilities in the college. Reportedly, students had lodged complaints regarding lack of potable water, prolonged power outages, broken chairs in classrooms, no standby generator and unhygienic condition of the washrooms. During his visit, the Judge inspected all classrooms and monitored state of education being delivered to the students by professors and lecturers, and expressed dissatisfaction over the situation. He further checked muster roll of staff and faculty members following students’ complaints about absent teachers on a frequent basis. He ordered Principal Prof Dr Ghulam Sarwar Qureshi to ensure provision of all necessary facilities in the college or otherwise, a stern action would be taken against him. Later, he visited canteen littered with trash and found broken furniture, unhygienic food conditions and no ceiling fans in the scorching heat of summer. He warned contractor to either improve the canteen’s condition on the priority basis or a stern action would be taken against him. Published in Daily Times, September 16th 2018.
