A police officer mistook her neighbour’s apartment as her own and shot him dead thinking the man had broke into ‘her house’.
26-year-old Botham Jean was gunned down on Thursday last week by the police officer, who mistook the former’s apartment as her own, she told the security officials.
Police has not revealed the name or details of the police officer, but has placed her on administrative leave as long as the investigation continues.
“We still have a lot to do in this investigation. So there’s a lot of information I understand you guys want but this is all we can give you at this time,” Mitchell told The Guardian.
The police is still investigating as to how the officer was able to get into the apartment. The residents of the apartment complex said they can access their apartments with a regular key or keypad code.
