Shehbaz Sharif criticises PTI govt for increasing gas prices

Published on: September 8, 2018 7:50 PM

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday criticised Iman Khan-led government for increasing the gas prices.

“The PTI government increased gas, electricity and fertilizers’ prices just 20 days after assuming charge,” said Shehbaz while addressing a press conference along with other party leaders

The government has increased the gas tariffs by 46 percent, said the PML-N leader adding that he has never seen ‘such a massive increase in prices before’.

‘Rigging allegations’

Shehbaz also recalled his demand to form a parliamentary commission to probe into the alleged rigging in the July 25 polls.

The PML-N president said that PM Imran had assured him that a parliamentary commission will be formed, but he did nothing in this regard.

He also alleged that Imran was not elected prime minister through votes but came into power through rigging.

Urging the prime minister to fulfill his promises, the former Punjab chief minister said he would make sure that a parliamentary commission be formed to probe the allegations of rigging.

‘PM’s call for dam fund’

Speaking about PM Imran’s call for donation to construct dams, the PML-N president said, “You do not need to collect funds for Diamer-Basha Dam but should attract investors.”

“What we have done with regard to energy production in Khyber PakhtunKhwa is in front of everyone,” said the PML-N leader.

‘Laptop scheme’

The PML-N president also criticised the new federal government’s decision to end the ex-premier’s laptop scheme.

“Laptops were not given to politicians or the rich but to students who achieved top scores and needed them,” he said.

This is the age of information and technology and you are depriving the poor of the facility to access information through laptops, he added.

‘Auction of luxury cars’

Regarding PM Imran’s decision to auction PM House’s luxury cars, Shehbaz said, “We held an auction of cars at Qaddafi Stadium.”

Further, taking a hit at PM Imran’s austerity drive, Shehbaz said, “We ate daal chawal during meetings and only made special arrangements during visits of foreign dignitaries.”

Shehbaz also said that he had never used a government residence.
