Despite the passage of two weeks, Deputy Superintendent of Police is yet to conclude an inquiry to find out where the gambling incident involving a transgender occurred, while the inquiry of a First Information Report (FIR) against the transgender was marked by the City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi.
An FIR on August 13, was registered against transgender Laila and nine others in New Town Police Station, which stated that a raid at Malya Park was conducted on information and 10 persons including transgender Laila were found gambling. All the accused were arrested along with their playing tools and Rs 37,000 from the incident.
When contacted, accused transgender Laila claimed that Head Constable Ezat Shah, Asif Satti and three others came to her residence in plain clothes and took Rs 700,000 as well as 10 mobile phones from her and her guests who were there to celebrate her birthday.
Later, transgender persons staged a protest demonstration in front of the CPO office against the wrong filing of the FIR. The CPO marked the inquiry of the matter to the New Town DSP Malik Muhammad Usman.
Despite the passage of two weeks, the DSP has yet to conclude the inquiry to find out the exact amount taken by the police in their custody and the real location of the incident.
Talking exclusively to Daily Times, Malik Muhammad Usman said the inquiry will be finalised within two to three days.
According to sources, Malya Park’s timing in the evening is from 3pm to 9pm, while in the FIR, the police stated that the raid was conducted at 10:30pm, which raises serious questions on the credibility of the FIR.
When contacted, Investigation Officer Habibur Rahman said, “I can’t give any version to media. I have evidence to prove the FIR in the court.”
