
Emma Watson is all ready to star in Greta Gerwig‘s upcoming ‘Little Women’ adaptation, taking over a role that was originally to be played by Emma Stone, who was unable to be a part of the project due to promotional obligations for her other new film, period drama ‘The Contender’.
Production on ‘Little Women’ is set to begin next month. Gerwig is directing and writing, with Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, Saoirse Ronan, Timothee Chalamet, and Florence Pugh in negotiations to star in Sony’s American classic.
‘Little Women,’ based on the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, is about four sisters Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy, during the American Civil War age. It was previously adapted for the screen by Gillian Armstrong, with a cast that included Winona Ryder and Kirsten Dunst.
‘Harry Potter’ actress previously starred as Belle in Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ which became a huge hit and earned more than $1.2 billion globally. Of late, she appeared opposite Tom Hanks in ‘The Circle.’ She is represented by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.
