In the past few days, more than 30 shopkeepers and commuters have been served with fine tickets over illegal dumping of waste/littering on Mall Road by the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC). This was revealed by LWMC Acting Managing Director Farrukh Butt. He stated that it is the prime responsibility of the organisation to keep the city clean for its citizens, whereas it is the responsibility of the citizens that they should dump their waste in bins which have been installed in the city and avoid littering or illegal dumping of waste the since LWMC enforcement wing has been working to impose fines and further legalities to discourage such actions. He further said that as per instructions of Lahore High Court, LWMC is working to make the Mall Road a model in terms of cleanliness. LWMC is providing services which incorporates installation of additional waste bins, special manual sweeping, mechanical sweeping and washing, comprehensive monitoring of proper waste lifting through video wall. LWMC community interface department holds multiple cleanliness awareness activities to sensitise public over importance of cleanliness and avoid littering. Meanwhile, LWMC held cleanliness awareness campaign in this regard. Community interface specialist Ali Mazhar briefed that LWMC is working on war footings to make Lahore clean and special importance has been given to mall road after court orders. He said that the reason why the awareness activity is being conducted is to hammer the message among the people to maintain cleanliness the way they maintain it at their home. It is pertinent to mention that in a couple of days, the LWMC enforcement wing has imposed fines for illegal dumping of waste/littering to more than 30 people who include shopkeepers and travellers etc. LWMC runs its extensive awareness campaign throughout the year, whose prime objective is to change the behaviour of the people towards civic responsibility and cooperate with LWMC that has been working day and night to provide clean and healthy environment for the citizens of Lahore.
