ISLAMABAD: A sub-committee formed by the Senate’s Standing Committee on Water and Power will submit its report regarding billions of rupees embezzlement in the Nandipur power project. According to sources, the Senate’s Standing Committee on Water and Power, chaired by PPP Senator Taj Haider, formed a three-member sub-committee to look into the increased spending on the three power plants. The sub-committee, chaired by PTI Senator Nauman Khattak while PML-N Senator Nisar Khan and ANP Senator Dawood Khan as members, will submit its report in a month. Under an official agreement, In January 2008, the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) inked contract with Dong Fang Electric Corporation of China to construct the Nandipur Power Project and under this agreement 10 percent down payment had been paid. Senator Khattak said that facts regarding the embezzlement would be submitted in the committee and then in the Senate. He added that the Water and Power Ministry did not give legal opinion regarding the project in 2010. He said that sub-committee will visit the concerned project to collect the facts adding, “We have already accumulated the materials in this regard.” He said a strategy to run this project on LNG was being chalked out.
