KARACHI: The Sindh government has requested the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) to keep its offices open till late night in a bid to facilitate the people in getting their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNIC s) ahead of upcoming Census 2017. The chief secretary Sindh, Rizwan Memon, has forwarded a letter to the Director General, NADRA in this regard with a request to extend the office timings beyond 5pm which would enable the citizens to obtain their CNICs and ensure to cater the Census 2017 a successful exercise. In view of the Census requirements that the CNIC of head of family is a mandatory requirement during enumeration of Census- 2017, while a large number of population in Sindh stand unregistered with NADRA, the authorities should ensure working of office beyond 5pm in all divisions and districts of the province, the letter said. Moreover, the divisional commissioners/Divisional Census Coordinators and Deputy Commissioner/ District Census Coordinators have been advised to mobilize the citizens to rush the NADRA offices, to ensure fool proof security at NADRA offices and to forward the daily reports to Secretary (I&C) Dr. Niaz Abbasi, for smooth coordinated efforts in respect of Census – 2017.
