Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) is the only remaining institution in Sindh which conducts various tests. Since 2013, it has invited a backlash of people over mismanagement, and alleged corruption and nepotism. SPSC conducted its competitive exam in 2015 which was declared null and void by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. As a result, the exam was re-conducted in 2017 and result was announced in June. It is terrible to see people tarnishing the image of SPSC members and personally attacking their families after believing in fake news against the institution. This is completely unbearable and below the belt. Moreover, destructive criticism on some social media pages and groups was so high that people started manipulating the mark sheets of successful candidates and correlated them with existing SPSC members illogically just to corroborate their criticism. Keeping the credibility and criticism in view, SPSC again issued a detailed notification regarding the alleged corruption and mismanagement. It even went to say that Siddique Memon, one of the members of SPSC, wrote an op-ed in a Sindhi daily, highlighting that none of the children of existing officers had passed and the news running on social media is completely rubbish. Yes, it is true that perfection does not exist. There are some management issues in the SPSC. Almost every institution has got some issues. Institutions like these need comprehensive reforms under some highly professional intellectuals like Ishrat Hussain, Qaiser Bengali, Agha Rafique, Asif Hyder shah and so forth Another successful candidate,Suhail Chachar who was also falsely under attack by keyboard Jihadis said, “I don’t know why I am being falsely proven to be the relative of Javed Ahmed Chachar, Director IT SPSC.The reality is I don’t know any Javed Ahmed.” Fake news has a lot more severe consequences that we know as it can have serious implication if the public starts acting upon the fake information they are being fed. It is important to keep in mind that people seriously need to evaluate and flushout fake news by not completely and blindly trusting social media. It seriously needs to be understood that whining and complaining is not the solution and personal attacks have some serious repercussions. Therefore, this practice seriously needs to be stopped.
