NAB inquiries have no ulterior motive: Justice Javed Iqbal

Published on: July 12, 2018 1:01 PM

QUETTA: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Justice Javed Iqbal has said that the state of corruption in Pakistan is such that people who couldn’t afford a house of 6-Marla, now have towers in Dubai.

In a conference held in Quetta, Justice Javed Iqbal said that all people engaged in any sort of corruption will be held accountable. He further said that the extravagant lifestyles that most politicians have are a result of immense corruption which has left the country in shambles. “Everyone will be held accountable regardless of their position and we shall begin with political leaders in the country,” he stated.

He further stressed that none of NAB inquiries have any ulterior motive and the bureaucracy has nothing to worry about as it should play a vital role in the whole inquiry process. However, he did remarked that the bureaucracy shouldn’t exhibit any exceptional loyalty to the “Kings”.

He argued that corruption isn’t like termites but is a cancer and has led to the rapid deterioration of the state of Pakistan. In such a state, he argues that the narrative that because of NAB, the work of the government has halted, is completely unfounded. He further said that Pakistan has been blessed with a province like Baluchistan which is abundant in natural resources. However, instead of tapping those resources, we have massive corruption scandals in Saindak and Reko Diq.

He conclusively said that he denies all charges of inquiries on political basis and regard them as a mere propaganda. He argued that it is beyond comprehension why people who have been involved in corruption of billions of rupees are being defended this way. He stressed that NAB has nothing to do with politics, its work is only for strengthening democracy.
