BADIN: Pakistan Fisher Folk Forum, Badin Chapter, Family Planning Association of Pakistan (FPAP), Soormi Development Society, and other various social groups have organized several programs and events to mark Women’s Day. The chief key Speakers at the different programs were; Mohammad Ali Shah, Chairman of Pakistan Fisher Folk Forum, Fatima Majeed, Vice chairman of PFF, Nisar Khokhar, renowned journalist, Zulekhan Ghulam Hussain, General Secretary of PFF, Tanzeela Qambrani, Zafar Dharejo, Ms. Abida Marvi Samoon, Umar Mallah, Mithan Mallah, Makkal Shah and others. Addressing various events, the key speakers all reiterated that no development can be achieved without the active role and participation of women. They highlighted the struggle women faced to achieve equality, justice, peace, and development. Speakers also criticized the government for its failure to protect women and failure to make effective legislation that could be implemented. They urged the government to take all possible measures for the empowerment and protection of women in Pakistan. They also observed that it was crucial for society to change its attitude towards women, and added that the inherent rights of women should be guaranteed and protected by all. All speakers underlined the need for improvement in the literacy rate among women in rural parts of Pakistan so that women of that particular area could be made aware of their rights. Without this improvement and awareness, development goals could not be achieved.
