JAMSHORO: The literary society of United States-Pakistan Centre for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCASW) at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) in Jamshoro established a bookshelf at cafeteria of the centre to develop a reading culture among students. The project director of the centre Prof Dr Bakhshal Lashari on Monday inaugurated the bookshelf and addressed the gathering. “Reading books is the finest practice that advances the educational landscape of the country, hence, students should spend their extra time reading books from the shelf,” he asserted while adding that more bookshelves would soon be installed in other parts of the centre. “The more you read, the more you would learn and achieve, accordingly,” he said. On this occasion, Imran Khan, a student and president of the literary society briefed participants regarding aims and objectives of the society and benefits of reading books. He said that by establishing bookshelves, the society aims to promote reading culture and develop interaction amongst students to enhance their thinking capacity. He thanked management of the centre to organise literary activities. The Society of Water Managers (SWM) president Muhammad Irfan, Academic Coordinator Mohammad Ali, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist Shahid Panhwar also spoke on the occasion. Besides, a large number of students, faculty members and staff also attended the bookshelf inaugural ceremony and vowed to donate their books for the great cause of learning.
