Sir: It seems that every year around exam season two major issues and how they affect students make the headlines, and are forgotten once exam season is over. These issues are cheating in examination halls and power breakdowns. The leaking of question papers has been eating away at our education system for years. This is a cause of distress and concern to honest and upstanding students, since it causes their hardwork to be wasted. In spite of steps taken to curb the problem, including increased vigilance around exam centres and social media surveillance, nothing of much significance has been achieved. Power outages at exam centres during the hot summer months exacerbate their woes. The authorities responsible must explain why exam centres are not provided with alternate energy sources. The proper arrangements need to be made for the benefit of honest, hard-working students. ABDUR RAHMAN Karachi Published in Daily Times, May 4th 2018.
