CJP drops in for a visit at a psychiatric hospital in Lahore

Published on: April 28, 2018 11:57 AM

LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar inspected a psychiatric hospital in the provincial capital on Saturday amid complaints of poor management in the hospital.

He visited various wards in the hospital, and also inspected the facility’s kitchen.

The CJP had planned the visit to the hospital after hearing a case of a mentally deranged woman who had been placed on death row.

The CJP had claimed that the woman looked mentally handicapped and should thus be transferred to a psychiatry hospital.

During the visit, a woman approached the Chief Justice and informed him that the medical facility also suffered from a dearth of essential medicines, in response to which the CJP sought an explanation from Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique.

Moreover, a doctor working at the institute, Dr Ayesha approached the CJP during his investigation, and revealed that her son had been missing for the last three years.

She claimed that her son was with the agencies, and added that the missing person in question was her only son.

She broke down during this revelation, and claimed that the authorities had simply failed to assist her.

She then beseeched the CJP to help recover her son, to which Justice Saqib Nisar promised to lend her his support.
