Gaza ceasefire deaths surpass 1,000

Published on: June 18, 2026 11:13 PM

The death toll in Gaza has surpassed 1,000 Palestinians since a U.S.-brokered ceasefire last October, according to the territory’s health ministry. The latest figures come as fresh strikes were reported despite ongoing diplomatic efforts. The situation highlights continued instability despite renewed truce initiatives.

Health officials said at least three people were killed in an Israeli strike on a vehicle in Gaza City. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the incident. The reported deaths bring the total since the October 2025 ceasefire to 1,008.

Israel has said its operations target imminent threats from Hamas fighters. However, Hamas has not consistently released detailed casualty information. The exchange of attacks continues amid competing claims over violations of the truce agreement.

Meanwhile, Israel and Hamas remain deadlocked over the next phase of a U.S.-backed Gaza plan. The proposal calls for Hamas to disarm and for Israeli forces to withdraw from key areas. Mediators are continuing efforts to bridge gaps between both sides.

Diplomatic talks involving U.S. envoy Nickolay Mladenov and regional mediators have taken place in Cairo. Nearly two million displaced Palestinians remain concentrated in coastal areas under severe humanitarian conditions. The conflict continues despite international calls for a lasting resolution.
