ISLAMABAD: Controversy marred the National Economic Council’s (NEC) meeting on Tuesday when the Chief Ministers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan walked out of the meeting. The three CMs claimed that the incumbent government was distributing development funds on a political basis and were favouring PML-N legislators over members of other parties. While addressing a press conference along with his KP and Balochistan counterparts later in the evening, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah claimed that since the NEC meeting lacked the required quorum, any funds that would be awarded in the meeting would be ‘unconstitutional.’ Mr Pervez Khattak, CM KP also addressed the press conference and accused the PML-N of ignoring PTI lawmakers, and said that there was no need to hold a meeting of the NEC if the incumbent government merely wanted a stamp of approval on its allocation plans.
