LARKANA: The activists of All Parties Alliance (APA) on Monday carried out a large rally from Jinnah Bagh to NADRA office, where they staged a sit-in against issuance of computerised national identity cards (CNICs) to the foreigners including Bengalis, Burmese, Afghans and others. The protesters burnt effigy of the NADRA chairman. Activists namely Jagdesh Ahuja, Mahmood Bhutto, Yasir Sandeelo, Mehran Sindhi, advocate Sajid Mahesar, Gulzar Soomro and others addressed the protesters. “The apex court considers aliens involvement in terrorism while the federal government, with the support of Jamat-e-Islami and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), is keen to issue CNICs to aliens. Send them back to their countries,” they said. They alleged that PPP government tried to split Sindh into two parts in the year 2012 which resulted in a strong opposition from Sindh people. They claimed that Sindh holds ‘the burden’ of millions of immigrants that has reduced employment opportunities for Sindhi people. “They suffer from acute poverty in their own land,” he remarked. They demanded rulers to stop issuing CNICs to the aliens otherwise they would enlarge the scope of protests. Published in Daily Times, April 24th 2018.
