LAHORE: Justice Muhammad Yawar Ali of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Friday directed the Punjab Inspector General of Police to hear point of view of ex-MPA Shaukat Mahmood Basra and decide in accordance with law his application seeking state protection / security due to “serious threats” to his life as claimed by him. The court directed the IG to afford an opportunity of personal hearing to Shaukat Basra and decide his request under the law. The court postponed till March 27th the hearing of Shaukat Basra’s petition seeking state protection. Counsel for petitioner Sardar Khurram Latif Khosa alleged that suspects involved in a recent life attempt on Basra in Haroonabad on February 6 were being provided full leverage and they had been extending threats to petitioner and his family. He alleged, “The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government had hatched a conspiracy to kill Basra. He requested the court to order the government and police to provide protection to Basra and his family with adequate security to ensure their fundamental right of being protected.
