All set to be directed by Todd Phillips, the upcoming Joker Origins film is to serve as a prequel to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight which came out with a bang in 2008, as reported by Hindustan Times. The synopsis of the new DC film reveals the story of how Joker, who was once a man of well-meaning, became one of the most notorious criminals of Gotham City. The synopsis reads: “Twenty years before Batman saved the city in The Dark Knight trilogy, Gotham was a crime-ridden, dangerous place. On one bad day, a man who tries to escape his miseries through theatre and stand-up comedy, becomes the most dangerous criminal of all time,” read the synopsis. It further added that the prequel to The Dark Knight will be produced by the renowned Martin Scorsese and explore how the ‘Clown Prince of Crime’ came into being. It is yet to be confirmed who will play the iconic role of the Joker in the upcoming movie, but reports suggest that Joaquin Phoenix may take the lead on this one. Earlier, it has been actors such as Jack Nicholson and the late Heath Ledger who have essayed the psychopathic criminal with their brilliant roles in the Batman films. Previously, Jared Leto also played the Joker in Suicide Squad.
