ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal on Tuesday said that NAB didn’t work against anyone unduly. He said that NAB functioned within the margins of the law and that with time NAB will be going through an evident change in its transparency for investigations.
Presiding a high-level meeting, Iqbal revealed that 226 people had been arrested by NAB in the recent months and investigations into 55 registered complaints were underway. He said that NAB had taken approval for 39 inquiries and 33 investigations to be carried out in near future.
Acknowledging NAB’s functioning, Iqbal said that 197 references relating to misappropriation had been filed in the court and 27 suspects were sentenced from the court.
Iqbal previously shared his piece of mind on various platforms, stating that ridding Pakistan of corruption was a shared responsibility of the people and the bureau along with him. He added that NAB’s main agenda was to pay off Pakistan’s debt by cutting the roots of corruption from country’s finances.
The former judge of Supreme Court added that NAB was not trying to create hurdles in the country’s development rather paving the steps for it by its work and efforts.
NAB has recently launched several investigations against allegedly corrupt politicians, office holders and government employees.
NAB is Pakistan’s apex anti-corruption organization that functions to eliminate corruption. It was formed in 1997 and operates under the National Accountability Ordinance-1999.
