Won’t mind if CJP instates judicial martial law, says Sheikh Rasheed

Published on: March 21, 2018 6:58 PM

ISLAMABAD: Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has on Wednesday said that he would not mind if Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar instates judicial martial law in the country.

“It is the judiciary’s responsibility to nominate caretaker prime minister. Everyone has their eyes focused on the judiciary. Would not mind if CJP instates a 90-day judicial martial law in the country for the purpose of elections,” Sheikh Rasheed said speaking to a press conference in Islamabad.

Rasheed added that the matter of caretaker prime minister should not only be consulted with Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah and that the opinions of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan should also be taken into consideration.

“Any individual not approved by Imran Khan would not be accepted as the caretaker prime minister,” Rasheed stated.

The AML chief also termed Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s recent visit to the United States (US) as ‘suspicious’. “How did he go on his US visit without a foreign secretary?,” He questioned.
